TMA Partners with TDH, Others to Promote Youth Sports Safety

From Tennessee Medical Association website:

TMA will join the Tennessee Department of Health and other community partners at Bridgestone Arena on May 2, 2018 to kick off the new Safe Stars initiative to recognize Tennessee youth sports leagues with high standards of safety for athletes.

TDH will host a reception beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Lexus Lounge at Bridgestone Arena to launch the initiative and announce the first Tennessee youth sports leagues to earn Safe Stars recognition.

The goal of Safe Stars is to provide resources and opportunities for every youth sports league to enhance safety standards. Safe Stars offers three levels of recognition – gold, silver and bronze – and involves implementation of policies around topics such as concussion education, weather safety and injury prevention.

Safe Stars is a collaboration between the Tennessee Department of Health and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Additional partners include the National Football League Players Association Middle TN Chapter; Nashville Predators; Nashville Sounds; Memphis Grizzlies; Tennessee Medical Association and the TN Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
