About the Keynote Speaker:
Harold Koenig, MD, is the Director of the Duke Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health. He has published extensively in the fields of religion, spirituality and health, with over 50 books in print or preparation, and 550 scientific peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Dr. Koenig has given testimony before the United States Senate and House of Representatives on the benefits of religion and spirituality on public health, and is the recipient of the 2012 Oskar Pfister Award from the American Psychiatric Association and the 2013 Gary Collins Award from the American Association of Christian Counselors.
Prior to helping found the Duke Center for Spirituality, Theology and Health, Dr. Koenig trained as an orderly, nurse, family and geriatric physician, and psychiatrist. Dr. Koenig also serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine, where he is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences. Dr. Koenig has presented his research on religion and health on many national international TV news programs including ABC's World News Tonight, The Today Show, Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News and The Dr. Oz Show.
