Applications Accepted for Future Docs 2023

Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Future Docs Programs, the Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and the Medical Explorations program.

Future Docs, a leadership program of the Chattanooga Hamilton County Medical Society and University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, is specifically designed for high school graduates and college students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

The summer program gives students up to 40 hours observing specialties in actual medical settings. They’ll be able to get a closer look at specialties in which they are interested and some specialties they may have not already known.

Future Docs is designed to:

  • Provide students the opportunity to learn more about life as a physician and inspire them to pursue a career in medicine
  • Provide students and local physicians with a community-based mentoring/teaching experience
  • Assist with efforts to increase the pipeline of health care providers in Southeastern Tennessee.

Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine – June 13-16, 2023

  • The Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine is a one-week program designed to encourage rising high school seniors and 2023 high school graduates to consider careers in medicine. Participants must be 18 years old at the time of the program. During the course of the week, students will learn about careers in medicine, job shadow health care professionals who practice in several areas of medicine, and enjoy hands-on learning simulations and potentially shadowing experiences.
  • Applications are now being accepted. Deadline to apply is April 26, 2023.

Medical Explorations – July 17-28, 2023

  • Medical Explorations is designed for future professionals pursuing a career in healthcare. The two-week program offers college students or recent high school graduates the opportunity to observe physicians and gain an insight in the practice of medicine.
  • Students must complete an application along with three essays and two recommendations which can be from a teacher, principal, guidance counselor, or other individual who is familiar with the student’s educational background and interests.  Deadline to apply is April 26, 2023.

All Future Docs participants are expected to maintain a professional manner, undergo mandatory training, and follow hospital regulations. Negative TB skin tests and proof of COVID vaccination is required to participate in the program.
